These data represent lake/pond features as well as other water bodies like reservoirs, marshes, and playas. This dataset is derived from the National Hydrography Database (NHD) compiled by the USGS in partnership with UGRC and other states' GIS programs.

A closer look
UGRC has modified the source NHD data to create additional functionality. Two fields have been added to this feature class (InUtah and IsMajor) and features have been split at the state boundary.

- Can be used to classify water body features by NHD functional type. , opens in a new tab

- Water body name found in the GNIS , opens in a new tab .
UGRC Attributes
- IsMajor
- Query/identify major lakes for coarse scale mapping and display,
1 = major
,0 = minor

- Identify/exclude lakes outside of Utah. Water body features that intersect the state boundary have been split
